Mweru Wantipa National Park - Zambia Safari in Africa
Mweru Wantipa National Park covers an area of 3134 square kilometers and lies in the northern part of Zambia in the Kaputa District. The park was declared a national park in 1972. Its extent includes the Lake Mweru. The swamp and the lake edges are dominated by the dense papyrus with some phragmites. Mweru Wantipa National Park has been noted to have a fair number of larger mammals that include bushbuck, puku, elephant, buffalo, sable, roan, hartebeest, eland, waterbuck, duiker, grysbok and warthog as well as the sitatung and klipspringer. Lion, Leopard and hyenas may be found in the park. The park is also rich in water birds. Several species of ducks, ibises, and herons occur, plus saddlebill, openbill, and white pelicans are seen. The shoebill stork was once sighted. The lesser and greater flamingoes have also been recorded.
