The River Club (Wilderness Safaris) - Victoria Falls
[The River Club (Wilderness Safaris) In Zambia Has Been Personally Visited, Inspected & Experienced By AfricanMecca Destination Professionals]
The River Club, with its Edwardian-style house and manicured lawns on the banks of the swift-flowing
Zambezi River
where hippo and crocodile float, seems to straddle the continents of Africa and Europe. 18 km upstream from
Victoria Falls
in Zambia (75 minute drive from the falls), on a steep bank overlooking Zambezi River and Zambezi National Park. Tell Me More About The River Club (Wilderness Safaris) Located In Victoria Falls -
Livingstone
- Mosi-O-Tunya Vicinity as an African Safari & Zambia Safari Holiday Accommodation
The River Club's Ten luxury chalets are spread out amongst the riverine vegetation, comprising luxurious bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms, most being split-level. Their originality stems from the fact that one side is completely open to the river, so that there is an uninterrupted vista of the Zambezi and its far bank from both bed and bathtub. Each room looks west into glorious African sunsets best viewed from the privacy of a ball and claw bath, brim-full with bubbles. All have a concertina screen door or window across the front of the bedroom and/or bathroom.

- One room can accommodate wheelchairs.
- 1 family unit: Litunga, which is on one level and furthest from the main house 2 single beds and 1 double bed.
- 2 honeymoon (double bedded) chalets with own secluded garden.
- [Please remember that that even though these rooms are screened off there are doors and windows that can be opened to offer uninterrupted views of the river, and as a result insects and other small creatures may fly into the room]
The River Club EcoTourism & Community Involvement Specifics
The River Club have been closely involved with nearby Simonga Village. The River Club has carried out a range of projects in the village, which have been funded by the generous donations of River Club guests in conjunction with the Wilderness Safaris Wildlife Trust. Projects to date have focused particularly on assisting women and children, and now include those that will help the inhabitants in general generate an income and therefore help the entire community. In order of priority, focus areas are sanitation, health, education and income generation. The long association between The River Club and Simonga Village has resulted in an excellent example of how the futures of rural communities and ecotourism ventures are intertwined. One of the most innovative ideas yet is the Elephant Chilli Pepper Project, where farmers of Simonga and other villages are being encouraged to plant a chilli patch around their food crops! The chilies are used to prevent elephants destroying food crops (dried chilies mixed with dung produce briquettes to burn at night, mixed with grease or oil this paste is used to grease a "chili fence") as well as earning the farmer extra cash (chillies are sold at $1 per kg). This idea, which helps farmers protect their food crops and generate income, is run by the Elephant Pepper Development Trust, which also advises farmers on natural resources conservation and sustainable utilization of such resources in relation to the management of conflict with wildlife.

nary and Dining Experience At The River Club (Wilderness Safaris) Located In Victoria Falls - Livingstone -
Mosi-O-Tunya
Vicinity as an African Safari & Zambia Safari Holiday Accommodation
- The River Club's main area is a well-appointed residence, with a comfortable lounge, large dining room, impressive library and wide veranda on which breakfasts and teas are taken. Lush gardens (where midday meals are often served) spread out beneath the trees and a croquet court is an ideal venue for a Pimm's-soaked croquet game. The pool seems part of the river itself, a secluded deck with hammocks and loungers provides respite and beauty treatments are available in the calico 'massage' tent.
